Let’s get something straight…

Just to be clear, I am NOT Amish.  Not that there’s anything wrong with that.  No, the name you see at the top of this page is an exclamation made by a good friend of mine referring to my family’s lifestyle.  You see, we don’t have TV.  We have televisions so we can watch DVDs & such, but we’ve sworn off commercial television in all it’s forms.  One of the best decisions we ever made.  Any information that we need or want (news, weather, sports, etc.) is readily available over the internet.  And it sparks my children’s imagination to follow sporting contests online by internet radio or ESPN Gamecast.

Such was the incident that sparked the aforementioned comment.  My son & his friend were catching up on the NFL scores Sunday as my wife & I prepared lunch.  They took it upon themselves to start giving us the play-by-play from the Gamecast.  They did a pretty good job & we got some laughs out of it.  In relating this story to my friend, he was reminded of the days of play-by-play read from ticker tape & exclaimed ‘You guys are like the modern Amish.’  And so a blog was born.  Personally I don’t see where any Amish, no matter how modern, would have satellite radio & wireless connections running to everything in their house, but anything for a laugh.

Plus I’d look silly in one of those flat, black hats.  What was he thinking?
